Rolfs Sachs: Camera In Motion
Context:
Rolf Sachs is a Swiss conceptual artist and designer , born in 1955 in Lausanne Switzerland. He opened a studio in London in 1994 to showcase his work , which are cross-disciplinary : lighting projects , opera set design ,motion photography and ballet photography, His favourite materials are natural ones like wood and felt.
Content:
Rolf Sachs captured photographs of camera motioned landscapes and moving trains. His work is contained with various colours such as bright golden yellow , vibrant red , light blue tint , cold blue and emerald green. The photographer uses a camera motion setting like a slow shutter speed to bring back memories in a slight diagonal composition especially in the middle image. These photographs give a feeling that time is going slowly which also offers a symbolic mood.
Concept:
Rolf Sachs blurs the boundaries between abstract art and landscape photography in this series of images with a camera motion style. The images photographed from the windows of a moving train bring back memories of family road trips experienced from the back seat of the car with your forehead pressed against the car window watching the landscape by at 70 miles per hour. From my point of view I thought that Sachs was trying to express time can go slow in order to absorb the beauty of the environment in a moving train .
